Q: When does an additional reference provide value? Is it external validation as an Appeal to Authority, is it contributing to an Echo Chamber, or just responsible research practice for keeping track of citations?

Q: Is it possible that adding references decreases the local value? Just throwing dozens of links to articles in a Further Reading section for a single topic seems like overkill, even if there is insight to be gained there.
